Our first four person family vacation is behind us (not including trips to see grandparents) with a successful jaunt to Crete. Pools, beaches, spacious enough accommodations, remote controlled air conditioning, incomprehensible commentary during Euro 2004 matches and hot weather far outweighed the local market cartel prohibiting non-Greek wines and, arguably, a certain been-there-done-that to the food. We sort of blew a new rule of thumb for planning trips - a day away for every hour of door-to-door transfer time, so the effects of poolside thought-free bliss were soon shoved aside by the amateur antics at Gatwick and inexplicable traffic back home. Liv's now dipped her toe in the Med, Gemma's done some good self-floating in the pool, and we were able to support a surprisingly successful football team amongst a sea of nonplussed locals.
